Anthony Cozzi’s poster for Kaliedospoke

Yeah, this is a pretty sweet poster.  Cozzi is participating in this show called Kaliedospoke, a bike centric art show in Santa Fe, NM.  Too bad the presale prints are sold out, but the remainder will be sold at the show.

Since when is it sweet to blatantly rip off someone else’s design?

Wow, that is a pretty brutal design theft. I wonder how the old adage of “good artists borrow, great artists steal” is going to hold up through the age of the interent, when everything can be cited.

In his defense, the artist did draw everything anew and screen print the posters himself. I guess the question becomes “where is the line between theft and homage?” Perhaps he thinks that knowledge of the original is so common that he doesn’t have to cite sources.

I believe that this design is something that is often referred to as “a flip.” You could call it an homage, or a rip off- but I think a well done flip is pretty bad ass. Maybe because I’m an old coot now, but what I saw immediately was a new look to the old Kraftwerk cover.

If it were a more obscure reference- I’d call it a rip off, but in this case I’m going to say homage.

That said- if you’ve never heard Kraftwerk’s Tour de France. Listen to it.
