I liked this little interview/edit. Chris Akrigg talks about his racing Teocali while having a cup of tea with his Mum. A mass start downhill race starting in the snow? Brilliant!
One of the many videos that Redbull has put together, The Atherton Project has been documenting one of the most talented cycling families out there, the Athertons. Gee, Dan and Rachel are siblings that seem to have an amazing setup. They live and ride together. With that, sometimes things go bad- in this “episode” Dan crashes hard on the trails, breaking a vertebrae, and putting him off the bike for 3 months. Sometimes shit happens. This is dedicated to the fallen- to those that got up again, and to those that are unable to.
The Dutch. “Hardcore” isn’t a word that they would likely use to describe themselves riding in the snow to work or school or shopping- it’s just part of life. The fact that fenders are the norm on Dutch bicycles might have something to do with it. Or maybe that the bicycle is so integrated into their lives that it just doesn’t dawn on them to do it differently. You see kids riding in baskets, kids riding bikes, bakfiets, everyday people just doing what they do. They prove in this video that their bikes work in the snow and muck. I do wonder how they stay so upright- are studs standard for winter riding there? I saw no slippage.
Seattle is home to some amazing talent when it comes to film, art, and music. Nouella Johnston is one of those talents. Not only is she a strong rider and fast on the rollers, she has an amazing voice and can tickle the ivory like nobody’s business. She is apparently pretty crafty too. This video has a bike in it- standard for 98% of the videos on this blog- and is also appropriate because it’s supposed to rain this weekend while I’m camping…
